Basic TYPO3 Flow and TYPO3 Neos resources

Even though TYPO3 Flow, TYPO3 Neos and Fluid are pretty well documented you can get sometimes a little bit lost when looking for specific information. Especially the usability of the official TYPO3 websites is not really great, as the page structure is IMO not well thought-out. And not to tell about the search functionality, which is currently pretty useless in most cases (e.g. have you ever tried to search for a Fluid ViewHelper on  Not quite the definition of meaningful search results…).

Nevertheless, Flow and Neos are great, why I wanted to start a list of resources I use over and over again. Intentionally the link list is far from being exhaustive, as it should only contain the most frequently needed resources (though it can and should serve as a hub to other resources and may be extended in the future):

TYPO3 Flow

TYPO3 Flow: Definitive Guide
As it says: the definitive guide. You can’t just ignore it. Offers also an in-depth look on the concepts behind Flow. Unfortunately some parts are still missing as of today (e.g. the Testing part).

TYPO3 Flow: Validator Reference
Essential when modeling your application.

TYPO3 Flow: Cookbook
Has some really useful examples and code snippets. Even if you don’t find a solution to your current problem here, it may guide you to building your own solution.

TYPO3 Flow 2.0 API / TYPO3 Flow – master API
Really useful for a deeper understanding of Flow (in case you don’t want to dig through the code of your Flow installation).

[UPDATE March 18, 2014]
TYPO3 Flow Gists by one of its creators
Some useful code snippets and examples from Bastian Waidelich, core member of TYPO3 Flow, can be found here.

Fluid ViewHelper Reference
Though it has no good usability, it’s just essential when building a Flow application (use the search function of your browser to obtain control of this really long one pager reference).

TYPO3 Neos

TYPO3 Neos: Integrator Guide
Shows the basics on how to setup your website with Neos. Unfortunately it still lacks some important information. And be aware of the fact, that some information may still refer to the Beta releases of Neos and may not be valid anymore since the release of Neos 1.0 (e.g. take a look here about creating your own Neos plugin, this fact is not yet mentioned in the integrator guide and can lead to some frustration…).

TYPO3 Neos: Integrator Cookbook
Has some more advanced examples and guidelines on how to extend and customize your Neos website. Hopefully this will be massively extended in the near future.

TYPO3 Neos: Command Reference, FlowQuery Reference and TypoScript 2 Reference
The references for administering Neos from the command line and for the new rendering concepts of Neos. Essential.

[UPDATE March 17, 2014]
A concise manual on TYPO3 Neos 1.0.2 in German language was conducted by Patrick Lobacher and can be found here. Amongst other things it contains instructions on installing Neos on different environments (shared hosters, Nginx, Vagrant) and gives an comprehensible introduction to the basic principles behind Neos (including code examples for TypoScript 2.0, Eel and FlowQuery).

[UPDATE January 30, 2015]
The TYPO3 Neos 1.0.2 Compendium is now also available in English.

[UPDATE February 07, 2015]
Patrick Lobacher is continuing his great work with the TYPO Neos 1.2.0 Kompendium, including all relevant updates for the latest version of TYPO3 Neos (German only by now).
Besides of that the first book on TYPO3 Neos is about to being published in March 2015, again by Patrick Lobacher: TYPO3 Neos – Das Handbuch.

Ok, that’s it for the moment. If you miss something here on the list, give me a note or comment.
